‘UPTOWN TRIANGLES’ SCULPTURE INSPIRES NEW LOGO
The Uptown Crossing Business Improvement District commissioned “Uptown Triangles” as a cultural anchor for the corner of North Avenue and West Lisbon Avenue intersect, near N. 48th Street. Installed in 2009, the aluminum sculpture is 20 feet tall and 12 feet wide. Its intersecting triangles evoke movement, possibility, openness and advancement.
“It’s inspirational,” said former Uptown Crossing board president Gordon Steimle. “It’s at a cross section of all the streets that come together and all the neighborhoods that surround it. It captures a sense of place and the people in that diverse and dynamic place.”
The sculpture was created by Chicago native John Adduci. It was transported to its location in two pieces, bolted together, lowered in place by crane, and secured to a concrete foundation. It was dedicated at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 21, 2009, which the artist attended.
Adducci was born in 1948, received his bachelor's degree in fine art from Southern Illinois University and his master's degree in fine art from Arizona State University. Since then, he has fabricated works of art in aluminum, bronze and steel at his studio in Chicago.
In February 2022, BID 16 unveiled its new logo, inspired by the sculpture. “When you see that sculpture, you know you’re in Uptown Crossing. Our new logo helps ground us in a location and reinforce our brand,” a principal at Quorum Architects and the current president of Uptown Crossing BID 16.
